Amalia is an internationally recognized award-winning-bestselling author, chef and seasoned entrepreneur born and raised in Guatemala City currently living in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She helps individuals and companies develop a better understanding and appreciation of Latin cultures through healthy gourmet cuisine and culture education. Amalia consults and partners with brands to build strategies around the Latin culture to connect them with the Latin market effectively through custom projects and programs, speaking engagements, and cooking experiences.
Prior to launching her company, Amalia had an executive banking career and earned a master’s degree in international business and culture from St. Louis University. After graduating from Le Cordon Bleu, she fused her Guatemalan roots, cultural savvy, business acumen and worldwide travel experience, and created Amalia LLC. Amalia aims to become a leading educator and ambassador in the US of Latin food and culture and strives to refine her work through ongoing education, exploring new ideas and cuisines, developing and testing original recipes, teaching, traveling and writing, mentoring other women entrepreneurs, working on special projects, and consulting. Amalia’s clients include Fortune 500 companies, professional organizations and business groups, nonprofits, universities, schools, and many more. She has taught at the legendary Cooks of Crocus Hill, Kitchen Window, the Arboretum, Byerly’s, and at kitchens all over the Twin Cities.
Amalia’s bestselling book Amalia’s Guatemalan Kitchen-Gourmet Cuisine with a Cultural Flair, won 9 first-prize national awards, including Best Foreign Cuisine Book USA by Gourmand World Cookbooks. She is now working on her second book. Amalia is a bilingual contributing writer for Twin Cities’ Latino American Today and for Guatemala’s Revue Magazine and Siglo 21 national newspaper. Her articles include insights, tips, healthy cooking techniques, and anecdotal experiences and recipes from her travels about food culture worldwide. Her work has been recognized and featured numerous times on the pressand the media in the US, Spain and Guatemala, and has been the cover story of various local publications, including Edina and Eden Prairie Magazines, amongst others.
